⭐☆☆☆☆ I was really looking forward to my first stay at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa Rancho Mirage, but unfortunately, this will also be my last. When we checked in, our room was not ready even though check-in had already started. We were told we would have to wait another 45 minutes because there was a tribal event. We did receive a $100 adjustment toward the cabana, which I appreciated, but it did not make up for the overall experience. The following day, the air conditioning in our room stopped working completely because the thermostat had no power. Maintenance did come and eventually fixed the issue, but it was another inconvenience during what was supposed to be a relaxing getaway. The biggest issue was the construction. It started around 7:00 a.m. every morning with lighter banging and construction noise that was still enough to wake us up. By around 9:00 a.m., it had turned into a full-blown construction site with constant loud noise. If you are staying at a resort where rooms normally cost around $400 a night, guests should not have to wake up to construction every morning. It completely defeated the purpose of a relaxing vacation. I also believe guests should be informed about major construction before booking or checking in so they can make an informed decision about their stay. Because of the construction, I called the front desk and spoke with a manager to explain that we had not been able to get adequate rest and still had a two-hour drive home. I requested a late checkout as a courtesy given the circumstances. She repeatedly apologized but continued to tell me it was not possible because of “high demand” for rooms. While I understand availability can be affected by occupancy, repeatedly saying sorry without offering any solution felt dismissive. I explained that an apology does not fix the fact that we were exhausted and still had a long drive ahead of us. During that conversation, I also mentioned that guests are paying hundreds of dollars per night for a resort experience, yet construction was preventing us from fully enjoying the room. The manager responded by saying that I “didn’t actually pay for the room because it was comped.” I found that response extremely dismissive. A complimentary room is still earned through casino play, and guests should receive the same level of service and respect regardless of whether they paid out of pocket or received a comped stay. That comment made me feel like my concerns mattered less because my room was complimentary. There were also several communication issues. No one explained that we needed a separate pool access card, so every time we went to the pool we had to have someone manually let us in until another employee finally explained the process. This should have been communicated at check-in. We rented a cabana, but the service was disappointing. Only one attendant checked on us once during the entire rental and never returned. I also asked another attendant about complimentary mocktails after being told they were available during certain hours. Instead of simply answering my question, she laughed, told me she had worked there for 13 years and had never heard of that, apologized while continuing to laugh, and walked away. Whether the information I received was incorrect or not, the way she handled the interaction was rude, embarrassing, and unprofessional. One interaction with security also left me uncomfortable. Several people walked onto the elevator ahead of us without being asked for room keys. My group was then stopped and asked to show ours. I complied, but when I questioned why the people ahead of us were not checked, the security officer closed the elevator doors while I was still stepping inside. I was looking back at him while speaking to him and was not paying attention to the doors at that moment, so I did not realize they were closing until my friends warned me. My hair nearly got caught in the doors. Whether intentional or not, it was an unsettling and uncomfortable experience. None of these issues alone would have completely ruined the trip. It was the combination of poor communication, construction noise, maintenance issues, inconsistent service, and dismissive interactions with multiple employees that made us feel like guest satisfaction was not a priority. The resort itself is beautiful, but the service did not match the price or the reputation. For a property charging hundreds of dollars per night, I expected much more attention to detail and hospitality. This was my first visit to Agua Caliente Rancho Mirage, and unfortunately, it will also be my last.
