Our suite was nice, very roomy for kids and a good value. Nice breakfast in the morning including dairy-free and allergy-sensitive options--this was not expected but a pleasant surprise travelling with allergies. Location is not far from many beaches, I would consider staying here again for a variety of beach activities.
The positives of this hotel are its location, room sizes, and parking. The hotel is approximately 5 miles from downtown Del Mar, which makes it convenient. You only have to drive a couple of miles on the freeway, which is a blessing given San Diego's traffic. We booked the 2-room/2-bathroom suite, which was very spacious. It had a microwave, stove, pots and pans, and a full-size fridge. Perfect if you are traveling as a group. The beds were comfortable, the bath products were of good quality, and the bathroom was spacious. There was ample outdoor parking available and I liked that one did not have to go into a tiny garage to park one's car. The negatives are that the hotel needs updating. The furniture in the breakfast area needs replacing, the wallpaper in the bathroom is peeling, and the carpets look old. Having said this, I would still stay in this hotel because of all the positives. The breakfast was decent. They offered several types of bagels, cold cereal, muffins, eggs, potatoes, yogurt and fresh fruit. I enjoyed the coffee in the hallway and appreciated the water fountains in the lobby. The reception staff was courteous and friendly. When we got there, the water had been shut off for longer than expected, and the receptionist, Melorie Khatib, patiently answered every guest's questions and made alternate arrangements for them when she could (without any support from other staff). This is noteworthy.
